Care of Your Carving

Care of your Carving

The carvings are treated with preservative and coated in an external grade stain, oil or varnish and so are suitable for placing outdoors. That said the sculpture is a ‘living’ material giving off moisture. It should be placed where the moisture coming from the base will not damage the surface underneath it. Neither should it be in direct contact with the ground where moisture can wick up into it and cause rotting. Some cracking as it dries out is natural, but this can be minimised by avoiding direct sunlight and by treating the carving twice a year (Spring and Autumn) with an outdoor grade oil of the type used on decking and outdoor wooden furniture.
